World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghbreyesus along with Minister for National Health Services Aamer Mehmood Kiani on Monday visited polio emergency operation cell to observe the performance of the cell in eradication of crippling disease. During briefing, they were informed about the set targets and strategy of the government to meet the targets for complete eradication of disease from the country.

Minister for National Health Services Aamer Kiani said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, polio task force has been working efficiently to address the issue and protect the country's children from polio virus by taking innovative steps. He said that special attention was being paid on awareness of parents to convince them about the positive results of polio immunization on children under five year of age and to ensure vaccination of every child during each immunization drive.

He said that the federal and provincial governments were utilizing all resources to eliminate the disease from the country. He said that the present government was committed to ending the polio and utilizing all their resources to provide a polio-free environment to the next generation. He said, "We need to ensure all our children have received all of their routine immunizations and are vaccinated, with two drops, every time the vaccine is offered."

Kiani said, "We are very close to the goal of polio eradication. To achieve this success, we all must join hands to ensure that every child is vaccinated. This is the only way we can ensure complete eradication of polio virus from our land."
